When you say Luella Doss: Think Fresh, Innovative, and Joyful! Since 1974, her unique creations have provided inspiration nationwide and beyond. Luella’s "Fowl Play" was the first of several collections and has been followed by three more. Clean lines and clear colors define Luella’s geometric and botanical designs. Her current fabric collection "Hot Flash" is designed with computer corroborator, Andrea Schuster.
In addition to fabric design, Doss developed Raspberry Hill Patchworks, an international business which published patterns and manufactured goods for the gift, gourmet, and furniture industries. As a byline artist for Simplicity Pattern Company, Luella’s designs became best sellers. Her soft sculpture hen and rooster received the coveted Tommy Award for excellence of design from the American Printed Fabric Council. Wisconsin Public Television and Radio named Luella Doss "1998 Artist of the Year." Luella’s art through quilts, wearable art, and soft sculpture animals and dolls have been exhibited and acclaimed throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. Luella’s Wearable Art has toured with the Fairfield and Bernina Fashions Shows since inception. She has been a front cover designer and contributing author for multiple publications and books while making guest appearances on national quilt –related TV series. From California to New York City, Luella is a sought-after keynote speaker and workshop teacher. She continues to produce a folk and fine-art festival, Christmas in the Country, in Wisconsin for 34 years.
Luella founded two statewide non-profit organizations to promote quilting. In 1981, Wisconsin Quilters and in 1988, Wisconsin Quilt History Project (WQHP). Both organizations are thriving today, and the WQHP is establishing the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts where Doss serves as curator and events coordinator.
Luella Doss lives in Wisconsin with her husband and receives inspiration for her work from their travels together. They have one son who is a commercial airline pilot.
